I offer a selection of made-to-order designs, bespoke lampshades, and a re-covering service.

About me

Hello, I'm Sharon Maginn the owner, designer, and chief tea-maker at The Posh Lampshade Company, I live and work in Leicestershire with my gorgeous but rather naughty rescue cat Alfie.

I wasn’t one of those lucky people who had a career in mind when they left school. But I was pretty good at maths so after trying a few things I ended up in financial services. It’s safe to say that I wasn’t contented and always felt there was something better out there for me. When I was under the threat of redundancy this gave me the push I needed to take a new direction.

I have always had an interest in interiors and as a naturally practical person, I decided to pivot my career toward upholstery.

However, it wasn't until I enrolled in an optional hand-stitched lampshade-making class that I stumbled across my true passion.

Since then, I've dedicated myself to mastering the art of traditional lampshade making. This starts with binding the frame, before pinning and gradually stretching the fabric tightly and then hand-stitching in place.  Lastly, the finishing touches are added and whether you prefer a classic hand-made bias trim or prefer to go all out with tassels and fringes, the choice is yours.

I've had the privilege of collaborating with interior designers and trade professionals and my work has been featured in World of Interiors magazine, and the Instagram feeds of Sanderson and William Morris.

I particularly enjoy re-covering vintage lampshades, and by opting to restore these classic designs, we contribute to a more sustainable future while enjoying the timeless elegance of the past.

Although most of my customers prefer to drop off their vintage frames for those further afield, I’m happy to send and receive lampshades in the post.

If you're in search of a statement lampshade or want to restore a much-loved vintage lampshade, I would love to collaborate with you. Together we can bring your vision to life.
